Minnesota Fringe Festival Day 11: “Looking for Justice”, “Two Bowls of Cereal and Some Bacon”, “The Princess Strikes Back”, “Dream of Me”, “Juliet & Juliet: Improvised Shakespeare” The Stages of MN Fringe of the Day Award Winner, and “The Greenhouse”.

Here we are at the final day’s reviews of the 31st Minnesota Fringe Festival. Thanks for reading along and I hope it led you to some of the better shows of the festival. I saw more shows this year than last, but I’ll save all of that for a final Fringe post later in the week. For now here are the final six reviews, enjoy!

Looking for Justice (in all the wrong places) is an exploration of the grey areas in the justice system. Examining this idea through creator Amy Oppenheimer’s personal relationship and involvement in the rape trial of a friend in 1970. Her solo show while not dynamic in delivery is well constructed and reasoned. Her legal mind clearly influencing her desire to examine events from multiple perspectives. There is humor but it is well measured and helps to keep the serious content from becoming emotionally overwhelming. Which allows us to process Oppenheimer’s arguments and, while not quite conclusions, her questions.

Two Bowls of Cereal and Some Bacon, Mahmoud Hakima’s show about growing up with an abusive stepfather is powerfully and bravely told. Scenes of familial trauma are intercut with the story of a mystery girl who befriended him in the 3rd grade. The unresolved aspects of that character reminds us that we never know what is happening in anyone else’s life at anytime. The title is used to draw a comparison between himself and the mystery girl, but her eventual disappearance begs the question, are their home lives more similar than either could know? The story of abuse is often the story of silence, this show explores some of what the silence may be hiding.

The Princess Strikes Back: One Woman’s Search for the Space Cowboy of her Dreams is traveling artist Victoria Montalbano solo show that walks us through her relationship history and search for her own Han Solo. Seeing herself as Princes Leia she covers the ups and downs of her love live from her first stirrings of sexual desire, seeing The Empire Strikes Back‘s kiss between Han and Leia to online dating. Everything is filtered humorously through the lens of Star Wars like her second serious relationship in which she was R2D2 to his C3PO. The humor isn’t the deflective kind we sometimes see in solo shows where the performer is confronting their lack of romantic success but used to put things in perspective and to entertain in an honest and yes, brave way.

Dream of Me is a sci-fi story about the extremes we will go to in order to hold onto those we love. Catherine Hansen plays Mia a woman whose husband Nick, played by Eric B Jacobson, has died while out running an errand. Natalie Rae Wass, who is also really good in Yo-Ho-Hum: A Pirate’s Midlife Crisis, here plays Mia’s friend Tanna who is working on a new invention that will allow the wearer to control their dreams. Mia is unable to process her grief and asks Tanna to let her test her invention so that she can dream about Nick and say her goodbyes. But once isn’t enough and as things progress we begin to wonder if these are dreams or if the AI behind the tech is up to something else. The three actors give wonderful performances in a story that turns from romantic fantasy into a cautionary horror story. Well written, designed, directed, and even choreographed.

Juliet & Juliet: Improvised Shakespeare is The Stages of MN Fringe of the Day Award winner for Day 11. The two Shakespearean Improvisors Meghan Wolff & Sami Haeli spend 50 minutes using a few suggestions from the audience to create a play in the style of William Shakespeare. Obviously as with other improv shows this will be different each time you see it. What I don’t imagine changes that much is the hilarity with which Wolff and Haeli execute their specific form of comedy. They have the vocabulary down as they must in order to so eloquently execute the heightened style of speech. They clearly have some sort of psychic link between them as there is never once, one of those moments that most all improv shows have, where you can tell one performer is not getting across where they want a scene to go to their scene partner. An impressive high wire act of comedy that I’d love to experience again.

The Greenhouse is kind of a weird show, which made it a great ending to my 2024 Fringe. What is the Fringe festival but a way to embrace and explore weirdness in all it’s artistic variables. The story concerns a cult set in a not too distant future. A young woman arrives just as an elder of the cult has decided it is time for them to pass away. The Cult is based around the protection and nurturing of plants they strive to maintain a balance within their community. As such a new person cannot join until some else has died. This sounds like it will go to a dark place, but it doesn’t. The cult is not portrayed as bad, but there is a complication with the passing of the elder and the newcomer, she is pregnant and one cannot be replaced by two. The cast does a nice job of performing so that the cult members are recognized as well intentioned and the new comer is the one acting suspiciously. Standouts in the cast include Georgia Doolittle as “Mother” and Vivian Kampschroer as Poppy the cult’s talented and committed botanist.

Minnesota Fringe Festival Day 10: “The MacScottish Play”, The Camp Out”, “We Were Only Henchmen”, “Show Me Your Wings” The Stages of MN Fringe of the Day Award Winner, “The Dumb Waiter”, and “What You Need To Do Is!”

While I only have six reviews today I did actually see seven shows. The seventh was a repeat of previous The Stages of MN Fringe of the Day Award winner Emily Bryajian’s Transition: A Story of Two Trans People Becoming Themselves. All the other shows are lucky I don’t give the award to a show twice.

The MacScottish Play is about of group of college students who are mounting a production on Macbeth that seems to be cursed. Cast members keep dropping out and then the Director gets sucked into the play itself. There are side stories for the cast members and lessons about not outing people and none of it matters because you don’t believe a word of the dialogue. The problem with the show is two fold. The script and the performances and it’s hard to say for certain if the failure of one isn’t contributing to the other. Are the performances so mannered and wooden because of the script or is the script better than it appears but is just being hobbled by unprepared actors? I lean towards the script being the bigger culprit. When dialogue exists just to take up time or to try and give an appearance of naturalism without adding anything to what we are seeing, even solid actors can struggle to give them meaning. There are about a half dozen good lines and I’m not saying the idea isn’t good. But the dialogue is illogical and feels like the verbal equivalent of treading water.

The Camp Out this is an Improv show which means every performance will be different. If you’ve ever wondered how true that is M’Colleague Jill, of Cherry and Spoon, took this show in twice and said aside from the set and putting up a tent it was completely different each time. One assumes from the title and the surprisingly elaborate set design that the story they weave will somehow involve a camping trip. I’ve seen good and bad improv, but I’ve never seen bad improv that Mike Fotis, who created, directed, and performs in The Camp Out. Fotis leads a cast filled with Twin Cities best improvisational actors including Rita Boersma, Tim Hellendrung, Nels Lennes, Heather Meyer, and Danna Sheridan.

We Were Only Henchmen is about two working class Henchmen who, out for a night of Booze and drugs, get talking about their current and past employers. Between them they have worked for many of the cities supervillains, and have opinions on which ones are better to work for. We hear the pros and cons of working for different baddies, there’s talk about benefits, horror stories of what has happened to friends under various employers. The performances are super strong and the show is filled with the sort of real world issues that never come up in comic books. When the two friends witness a superhero doing something horrible, what was a fun night out between friends gets very real. I really enjoyed the humor and performances and the skewed reality of the plays world. And hats off to Costume Designer Leo Green for Mr. Superior’s Superhero threads.

Show Me Your Wings is The Stages of MN Fringe of the Day Award winner for Day 10. Show Me Your Wings stands out in the sea of Fringe shows for it’s unique location at Squirrel Haus Arts. But even more unique is the combination of artistic disciplines utilized to convey creator Rhiannon Fiskradatz’s vision. Very much an autobiographical show it uses among other things, interactive art, video, puppetry, watching a painting created before your eyes, dance, and curated artwork. I was hitting a wall when I arrived at Squirrel Haus Arts for this show. This was my 45th show over 10 days, I was curious about the show but also struggling to connect with the aspects of the show that we explored on our own. But I found my way through that when Fiskradatz began to sing. As she talks and sings about different aspects of her life and journey, I found myself rejuvenated and ready by the end to rush out and make it to the final two shows of the day. It turned out to be a beautiful change of pace, a very memorable and special show.

The Dumb Waiter is a one act play by Harold Pinter performed wonderfully by Dominic Schiro and Robert Wood Frank. It’s about two hitmen who are waiting in a room for their next assignment. The Dumb Waiter of the title begins to deliver food orders to them, which they don’t know how to respond too. It’s a play that ends kind of ambiguous, that leaves you a little unsatisfied. But, that when you think back, you were enjoying every moment of the show. Like The Zoo Story, it’s nice to see thrown into the melting pot that is a Fringe Festival, a solid traditional one act play produced. I enjoyed this one as I have everything I’ve seen from Jackdonkey Productions, the company behind The Dumb Waiter.

What You Need to Do Is! If I had known going in to this show, what it was I’d have never gone in. That said, I’m glad I accidentally attended this one, and now that it’s over, I realize I had a good time. If you like audience participation or those team building get to know you exercises at work, then this is the show for you! If you can’t wait to tell some stranger 3 fun facts about yourself, this is the show for you. Or, Are you like me an introvert, though one who tries really hard to break out of that? If so, this is the show you do not want to find yourself seated at when the house lights are supposed to go down and then don’t. So with all that, why am I glad I ended up at What You Need to Do Is! ? It has everything to do with Coach Clemons and Assistant Coach Low Jack played by Eric Simons and Alsa Bruno. These guys make it as painless as possible, we had laughs but we also actually kinda learned a few things and worked through some issues.

Minnesota Fringe Festival Day 9: “Love Lies a Bleeding” The Stages on MN Fringe of the Day Award Winner! and “The Ghost of Frankensteins Bride”

Only a two show night as I had to review a non Fringe show as well this evening. But don’t let that fool you, the Fringe of the day Winner is very deserving.

Love Lies a Bleeding is The Stages of MN Fringe of the Day Award winner for Day 9. An adaptation of a play from the 17th century by playwrights Francis Beaumont and John Fletcher who were contemporaries of William Shakespeare. The program describes Beaumont and Fletchers intentions as “What if we made Twelfth Night gayer and hornier”. That perfectly describes this comically bloody, but not in a gross out way, play. The original 3ish hour play was adapted down to 1 hour by Vee Signorelli and love to compare scripts sometime, it has a little bit of antiquated speech but nothing on a level with Shakespeare. A great ensemble cast with the highlights being the actors involved in a love triangle between a man, a woman, and their servant, played to hilarious effect by Matthew Smith, Valerie Wick, and Isabella Spiess. I wish I had seen this show earlier so I could get the word out more, but the house I saw it with was fairly full, so hopefully word has gotten out.

The Ghost of Frankenstein’s Bride runs a little under 45 minutes and that seemed a little too long. There seems to be a lot of shuffling of props and restating the same information. I think this was a show with a solid 25 minutes of script padded to a lean 45. I liked the look of the production by Scenic Designer Jordan Leeper. There was something like a magic trick at one point involving jars that was very impressive and I thought the cast was good. But I know what it’s like trying to decide which of the 105 shows to see and the reality is there are other shows that deserve that slot more. I think this team has an interesting idea that they could flesh out for a future run, maybe at TCHF.

Disney’s Newsies at Artistry in Bloomington Features Some Very Fancy Footwork!

Surprisingly this is my first exposure to Disney’s Newsies. When the film came out in 1992 I was in college and it just didn’t interest me, and though it’s a frequently performed show of late, the stars had not aligned until now. It’s the story of Newsies (children who sell the newspapers on street corners) in 1899 New York who strike to protest the increased cost of papers and thus their lowered earnings. Led by Jack Kelly, who once rode in a carriage with Teddy Roosevelt, and with the counsel and guidance of newcomer Davey and his little brother Les, the newsies take on Newspaper titan Joseph Pulitzer. It’s a fictionalized telling of an actual historical event that is really rather fascinating. With music by Alan Menken who’s music contributed to the 1990’s Disney animation renaissance with among others The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin as well as the musical Little Shop of Horrors (which coincidentally is running at the Guthrie theater through August 18th) and lyrics by Jack Feldman. With Book by Harvey Fierstein who came to prominence in the early 1980’s starring in his own play Torch Song Trilogy which won him two Tony Awards, he also did the book for Kinky Boots (which coincidentally is running at Lyric Arts through August 11th). It’s a great team and they have created a solid musical, with several stand out numbers that Artistry has staged wonderfully under the direction of Ben Bakken.

What really wowed me with this production was the choreography by Renee Guittar, the entire cast executed with precision and a rowdy sense of energy. The cast is led by Will Dusek, who recently shone as Frankie Valli in Chanhassen Dinner Theatres production of Jersey Boys, as Jack Kelly. Here he gets to put that east coast street smart persona to use again, and while the songs are quite as iconic, his performance is just as impressive. His love interest is a young reporter named Katherine, played by Audrey Parker, who gets a chance to show of her dancing skills and wonderfully matches Dusek as they argue their way into an attraction for each other. Jack’s best friend Crutchie, nicknamed such because he needs a crutch to walk, is played by Tyson Insixiengmai who has a beautiful solo song “Letter From the Refuge” that’s one of the best moments in the show thanks to their performance. Also amazing in the roles of brothers are Pierce Brown as Davey and Maddox Tabalba as Les. Brown’s less street smart but idealistic while Davey is really the heart of the play and the audiences entrance into the world, as he is new to the world of newsies. Tabalba, who’s character is nine and I would guess he’s about the same age, is fantastic in his performance and especially his dancing, really getting to show of his skills in the song “King of New York“.

The music, as is always the case at Artistry, is simply top notch under the musical direction of Kate Mariana Brown. I was pleased to see a more robust set design than we’ve seen lately at Artistry. I liked the detail and feel of 1899 New York by Scenic Designer Michaela Lochen with the huge backdrop of the Brooklyn Bridge adding a real sense of scale to the production. Completing the look were the props designed by Katie Phillips and costumes by Meghan Kent all of which help to give the show a period feel. I had a great time with this show so much that I know have an interest in finally seeing the film version, and I’m immediately planning some googling to learn more about the actual historical events that inspired the show. It’s a great cast and along with some great songs, there is some really amazing dancing for fans who like some fancy footwork with their musicals.

Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare at the Pub From The Gray Mallard Theater Co.

Running through July 28th at Sociable Cider Werks is The Gray Mallard Theater Co.’s Shakespeare at the pub production of Romeo and Juliet. It’s free to all, best to bring your own chairs but if you get there early enough they have some provided. There is a food truck onsite and a wide range of beverages both with and without alcohol. I came to the show for two reasons, Shakespeare and Em Rosenberg, who is playing Romeo, in the production. Faithful readers will remember that Rosenberg has been on my ones to watch list for sometime now. Listeners to Twin Cities Theater Chat may remember hearing me interview them for one of our episodes around the Guthrie’s History plays in which they played multiple roles in each of the three plays. Once again Rosenberg doesn’t disappoint, headlining a very well paced production directed by Gray Mallard Artistic Director Amanda Fuller. It’s a little like a less controlled version of a Ten Thousand Things performance very bare bones in terms of costumes, props, and set, just what is needed to tell the story. It’s rough around the edges but also extremely fluid, giving it a dangerous and lively energy that works really well in this nontraditional performance space. The focus is on the performances and the language

The truest sign of a good Shakespearean actor is how well a modern audience can understand the language. A great performer will be able to communicate the text to the audience, whether we know the words or not, they will make the meaning clear. There is a lot of use of hand gestures and physical work being done to communicate the meaning of the lines and frequently bring added humor, some of it delightfully risque. There are a lot of wonderful performances starting of course with Em Rosenberg’s Romeo. I think this was my fifth Shakespeare play with Rosenberg in the cast but certainly the largest single role. They are as natural a communicator of Shakespeare’s work as I’ve ever seen, whether wooing Juliet, joking around with his friends, or shouting at the stars their performance is always captivating and precise. Caiti Fallon and Kamani Graham start the show off on the perfect note. Letting the audience know from their movements, costume, and tone of their line readings that while certainly this is a tragedy, we are still going to have some fun with this production. Alessandra Bongiardina as Juliet is a nice fit with Rosenberg’s Romeo, they have a chemistry that helps a modern audience accept some of their choices as natural responses given their connection and maturity. Davis Brinker as Benvolio comes across as one of the guys but the one with the cooler head on his shoulders, while Zach Lerner’s Tybalt and Cooper Lajeunesse’s Mercutio are entertainingly hot headed. I really enjoyed Tony Larkin and Cathleen Fuller as the lovers co conspirators Friar Laurence and the Nurse, being the two adult characters that seemed to have more than a little common sense when trying to temper Romeo and Juliet’s impulses.

A very enjoyable production of Romeo and Juliet, a fun way to spend a summer evening out of doors and you can’t beat the ticket prices. Kinky Boots Makes a Splash at Lyric Arts in Anoka

Kinky Boots might just be the best thing playing in the Twin Cities area right now. Based on the 2005 film the musical features a book by Harvey Fierstein and music and lyrics by Cyndi Lauper, that’s a winning combination and it pays off big time. They provide the basis for the show but it’s the cast that really makes this show sing. I usually prefer to use production photos in my reviews, but I wasn’t provided one that really showcased the three outstanding leads Grace Hillmyer, Mitchell Douglas, and Erik Speegle. Speegle plays Charlie whose family shoe business, Price and Sons, is not how he wants to spend his life. After his father’s sudden death he has to return home to take care of business, only to find that the business is family but no one wants well made shoes anymore, they want cheap shoes. After a chance encounter with Lola, a drag queen played by Douglas, he hits upon the idea of making the titular kinky boots, based on a suggestion from Lauren, played by Hillmyer. Rather than close down the shoe factory the decide to try and save it by catering to a niche market, crossdressing men. Will they save the factory? Will the factory workers accept Lola as the new designer? Will they even accept Lola as a person? Even if I told you the answers you’d still need to see the show, it’s not about the story it’s about the message and the way it’s delivered. Director Vanessa Brooke Agnes has made the journey to these answers one well worth taking.

If there is a flaw with this show it’s in the script which should have given the character of Lauren, played by Hillmyer, more time. Hillmyer’s portrayal is so adorably quirky, everytime she gets the spotlight she sparkles but not in a flashy way it’s more of a twinkle. It’s hard to say what it is about the performance other than it’s great character work, it’s comedic, and vulnerable and undeniably endearing to the audience. She’s in love with Charlie who doesn’t get to sparkle, he’s the one with all the responsibility and Speegle, whose new to me does a nice job playing the straight man, though at times he seems a little unsure what to do with his hands. Where he gets to shine is whenever he sings, as good as everyone in the cast is, Speegle for my money had the best voice, possibly second to Daze Bishop who as George, the factory manager and part of the ensemble, only got a brief moment of singing on their own, but it was eye opening. Undoubtedly the star of the show is Mitchell Douglas whose performance as Lola sparkles in the flashy way that Lola would not have any different. Douglas moves as if he was born wearing heels and he nails Jaclyn McDonald’s choreography. In full drag costume he is stunningly beautiful, with attitude and confidence to spare. Then suddenly there are moments in his performance of vulnerability, it’s a remarkable performance and it deserves to be seen by as many people as can get tickets. Hats off to the entire cast but particularly to those playing Lola’s Angels, his backup drag queens, they have the moves down, and it was such a pleasure to watch their performances, they all were amazing.

It’s not often with my schedule that I even entertain the idea of seeing a show more than once. But Kinky Boots is one I’m seriously considering a second trip to see. Great River Shakespeare Festival, Destination Theater in Winona MN, More Than Worth the Trek

Last year I made the journey down to Winona MN for the Great River Shakespeare Festival for the first time. I had such a great time that I vowed to return, and so I have. This year’s festival consists of two Shakespeare’s plays Hamlet and Much Ado About Nothing. When it comes to Shakespeare’s drama’s my favorite is Hamlet and of his comedies, it’s Much Ado About Nothing. I grant you that these are obvious choices for favorites, but the heart wants what the heart wants. So this was a perfect lineup in my view. Not that I needed any coaxing to attend this yearly theater oasis in the somewhat drought like summer theater schedule.

Winona is a quaint little city that for the most part seems to close on Sundays. So, if you’re curious to explore and do some shopping in the downtown area I recommend making your schedule to allow for that on Saturday afternoon, not Sunday. It is possible to travel down on Saturday morning, see both plays and travel back after the evening show. But, I think it’s more enjoyable to make a little weekend getaway out of it if you can. There are more things in The Great River Shakespeare Festival than just the plays and a stay over allows you to partake of some of the festival events as well. There are free Sunday morning Company Conversations at Blooming Grounds Coffee House, and Ice Cream Socials after ever Friday and Saturday evening performances. About 45 minutes before each show there is a Green Show put on by the understudy company members to prepare you for what you are about to see. There are also post show discussion and a variety of programs and classes for young aspiring actors from ages 4 to 18.

Much Ado About Nothing is the story of two sets of lovers. The young couple Claudio and Hero who are subject to all the deficiencies of youth, jealousy, naivety, rashness. The older couple is Benedict and Beatrice who are the template on which the “will they or won’t they” and the opposites attract characters such as Sam and Diane (Cheers) and David and Maddie (Moonlighting) are based on. They are too wise to woo peaceably and thank God for that because it’s much more entertaining when they wage a battle of the wits upon each other. While both Hamlet and Much Ado about Nothing are worth the trip, Much Ado… is the less successful of the two. The setting for the play is updated to modern times at a block party welcoming home soldiers from the war. There are some very effective choices made that fit well with a modern setting and a modern audience. One being the outcome of the conflict between Claudio and Hero played by Daniel Ajak and Emily Fury Daly. The resolution feels valid and more in keeping with human behavior in the 21st century, but it is at odds with the inciting incident and its repercussions. They play the conflict as if it bares the same weight as it would have 400 years ago, but the denouement is more in keeping with our social norms, the discordance doesn’t mesh as well as it should. Look, Benedict and Beatrice are always the stronger couple that’s no surprise. Daly and Ajak do what they can with Hero and Claudio, but they just are not as dynamic of characters, though the changes to the resolution do give Hero a stronger part.

What does work like gangbusters are the choices Melissa Maxwell and Will Sturdivant make as Beatrice and Benedict. Their line readings and the way in which they carry themselves along with the comedic physicality which they bring to the roles is unique and brings a fresh perspective to these timeless characters. The space they have to perform in is limited, but like the Ten Thousand Things productions here in the Twin Cities, the physical limitations seem to act as a catalyst for creativity. That Sturdivant and Maxwell shine in the roles is no surprise to anyone who has seen them perform in the past. To see them in these roles is worth the trip alone. What was a pleasant surprise was Diana Coates whom is new to the company this year and was a revelation in multiple supporting roles in both plays. In Much Ado Coates plays Margaret, Antonio, and Borachio. The best role is Margaret as she is less encumbered with disguises, as she is particularly in the role of Antonio, and her charisma and stage presence are like a magnet for the audience’s attention. I hope to see her back next year with a lead role.

This is hands down the best production of Hamlet I’ve seen on stage. At two hours and forty minutes including intermission it’s also probably one of the shortest while also covering much more of the text than I expected. Right from the start Director Doug Scholz-Carlson affirms his understanding of the multilayered tapestry that is Shakespeare’s greatest play. It is a play about revenge, it is a play about political intrigue, it is a play about love, it is a play about our ability and inability to act, and it is a GHOST STORY! The play opens embracing the supernatural aspect, and not just in a philosophical way but in a visceral hair raising approach to the staging. The first scene, where the guards and Horatio encounter the ghost of Hamlet’s father, is played in almost complete darkness. The sound design by Jeff Polunas and the lighting design by Avery Reagan perfectly combine to create a genuine sense of terror in the audience. It’s the best embrace of the horror aspect of Hamlet I’ve ever experienced and it’s used effectively again when Hamlet encounters the ghost. The Ghost and Claudius are played by Will Sturdivant, the costume for the Ghost is really well executed by designer John Merritt adding another eerie element of the supernatural with a glowing chest. The opening scene starts the play off with a scream and then basically doesn’t stop or allow the audience to catch their breath until intermission. Part of what really makes this production so successful is that relentless pace, there isn’t time for the audiences mind to wander, you are on the edge of your seat from that first moment when the lights go down and stay down.

Tarah Flanagan is a wonderful Hamlet. Part of the characters defining characteristics is his indecisiveness, Flanagan’s physical petiteness adds a visual element to the sense of the characters inability in the first half of the play set a course, this sense that he is being blown around by a strong wind. But Flanagan also displays a keen intelligence so you never feel like Hamlet is weak or ineffectual, that blowing in the wind aspect comes from his uncertainty as to what is true and how best to act. When the final sword fight comes between Hamlet and Laertes, it’s really well choreographed by Benjamin Boucvalt, and Flanagan looks an equal match for Carl Schack, who as understudy was playing the role of Laertes. It’s one of the best sword fights I’ve seen on stage, made all the more impressive by the fact that half of it was being performed by the understudy. The cast is perfect in every role, It’s Flanagan’s show without a doubt but she has strong support from Sturdivant as the Ghost and Claudius, Melissa Maxwell as Gertrude, Michael Fitzpatrick as Polonius and the Gravedigger, Emily Fury Daly as Ophelia, truly heartbreaking as Ophelia separated from her senses after the murder of her father.
